Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy 
Infection 
Intracranial haemorrhage/infearction 
Structural CNS lesions 
Metabolic disturbance
Metabolic disorders 
Neonatal withdrawal

Diagnosis - what signs would you looks for? What can be used to confirm it?

A

Subtle e.g. lip smacking, limb-cycling, eye deviation, apnoea’s
EEG can confirm seizure activity

Treatment - general

A

ABC
Turn on side
Rule our/treat reversable causes such as hypoglycaemia
Start antibiotics
Insert IV access and take blood for FBC, U&E, LFT’s, calcium, magnesium, flucose and blood gas
