Neck II Flashcards
False vocal cord
Composed of vestivular fold of quadrangular membrane = vestibular ligament
Runs from lateral epigottis –> arytenoid cartilage
Free lower border
Quadrangular membrane
Runs from lateral margin of epiglottis –> anterolateral arytenoid cartilage
Free upper margin between epiglottis and corniculate cartilage
Free lower margin –> thickens vestibular ligament
= false vocal cord
Anterior attachment to thyroid angle
Cricothyroid muscle
Innervated by EXTERNAL branch of recurrent laryngeal
O: anterolateral arch of cricoid cartilage
I:
- oblique: inferior horn of thyroid cartilage
- straight: inferior margin of thyroid cartilage
F: forward and downward rotation of the thyroid cartilage at the cricothyroid joint
=tension of vocal cords
Posterior cricoarytenoid muscle
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
O: oval depression posterior surface of lamina of cricoid cartilage
I: posterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
F: ABducts vocal cords = only muscles to do so
Lateral cricoarytenoid muscle
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
O: superior surface of arch of cricoid cartilage
I: anterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
F: ADduction of vocal cords, medial rotation
Transverse arytenoid muscle
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
Unpaired muscle - only one
O: Lateral border of posterior surface of arytenoid cartilage
I: same point on contralateral side
F: ADduction of arytenoid cartilages and vocal cords
Oblique arytenoid muscle
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
O: posterior surface of muscular process of arytenoid cartilage
I: posterior surface of apex of CONTRALATERAL arytenoid carilage with extension to epiglottis (aryepiglottic part)
F: spinchter of laryngeal inlet
-bring epiglottis and arytenoid closer together –> tensioning of cords
Thyroarytenoid muscle
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
O: thyroid angle and adjacent cricoid ligament
I: anterolateral surface of arytenoid cartilage –> extension to aryepiglottic fold –> epigottis
F: sphincter of laryngeal vestibule and inlet
Vocalis
Innervated by reccurent laryngeal nerve of the vagus nerve
O: lateral surface of vocal prcoess of arytenoid cartilage
I: vocal ligament and thyroid angle
F: adjusts tension in vocal cords
Superior laryngeal artery
Branch of superior thyroid artery
Originates in upper margin of thyroid cartilage
Accompanies superior laryngeal nerve through thyrohyoid membrane –> larynx
Inferior laryngeal artery
Branch of inferior thyroid artery
Ascends with recurrent laryngeal nerve
Enters larynx under margin of inferior constrictor muscle of pharynx
Entry of internal laryngeal nerve
Passes anteroinferiorly
Penetrates thyrohyoid membrane
Branch of superior laryngeal nerve, originates from inferior vagal ganglia
Entry of external laryngeal nerve
Passes on lateral wall
Penetrates inferior constrictor
Branch of superior laryngeal nerve, originates from inferior vagal ganglia
