Drug class of Narcan?
antidote; opioid antagonist
Mechanism of Action of Narcan?
Competitive inhibition at narcotic receptor sites. This reverses respiratory depression.
Indications for Narcan?
respiratory depression in the opiod OD pt. Comatose of unknown origins
Contraindications of Narcan?
Be careful with narcotic-dependent patients, or neonates with mothers who are narc-dependent.
Adverse effects of Narcan?
restlessness, seizures, agitation, tachycardia, vomiting, HTN
Precautions for Narcan?
incompatible with bisulfate, alkaline solutions
How is Narcan supplied?
0.4mg/mL and also 1mg/mL ampules/vials
Adult dose for Narcan?
0.4-2mg Q 5mins up to 10mg
Ped dose for Narcan?
0.1mg/g/dose with max up to 2mg
