rapidly increase serum glucose. Short-term osmotic diuresis
Indications of Dextrose?
hypoglycemia
Contraindications for Dextrose?
Intracranial hemorrhage.
Adverse effects of Dextrose?
Extravasation exposure leads to tissue necrosis. Warm, pain, burn from IV infusion site
Precautions for Dextrose?
Careful when used with sodium bicarb and Coumadin
Adult dose of Dextrose?
If adult’s BGL < 60, dose is: 12.5-25g D50 IVP
Pediatric older than 2 yrs old. Dose of Dextrose?
If BLG<80, D50 given 1-2mL/kg
Pediatric younger than 2 yrs old. Dose of Dextrose?
If BLG<80, D25 given 2-4mL/kg
Neonate dose of Dextrose?
If BGL <45, D10 given 2mL/kg
