Altered LOC with hypoglycemia
How does Glucagon help a choking patient?
It relaxes esophageal sphincter to relieve impacted food bolus
How does Glucagon help anaphylaxis/OD?
Works as a reversal agent only when the patient OD on beta-blocker, or calcium channel blocker. It may help in beta-blocker anaphylaxis as well
Contraindications for Glucagon?
hyperglycemia, hypersensitive
Adverse effects of Glucagon?
dizzy, headache, HTN, N/V, rebound hypoglycemia
Precautions of Glucagon?
incompatible in solution with most other substances
Dose of Glucagon for hypoglycemia
0.5- 1 mg IM Q 7-10mins
Dose of Glucagon for CA+/Beta-blocker OD?
3-10mg slow IVP
