increase inotrope and chronotrope. constricts systemic vasculature. increases myocardial contractility and stroke volume
Indication for Dopamine
cardiogenic and septic shock. hypotension w/ low cardiac output. Distributive shock/symtomatic bradycardia. BEST USED IN POST-CARDIAC ARREST
Contraindications for Dopamine
Hypovolemic shock/ v-fib. Pheochromocytoma (adrenal tumor) / tachydysrythmias
Adverse effects of Dopamine
Headache, anxiety, dyspnea, palpitations, chest pain, increased myocardial oxygen demand.
Precautions of Dopamine
Incompatible with sodium bicarb. MAOIs will enhance effects. Beta blockers will antagonize effects. when given with phenytoin, it causes hypotension and seizures
