muscles of the carpal and digital joints Flashcards
M. extensor carpi radialis origin?
Crista supracondylaris lateralis of the humerus.
M. extensor carpi radialis Insertion?
Proximo-dorsal ends of McII and McIII.
M. extensor carpi radialis Function?
Extension of the carpus; flexion of the elbow joint.
M. extensor digitorum communis origin?
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
M. extensor digitorum communis Insertion?
Dorsal aspect of the Crista unguicularis (P3).
M. extensor digitorum communis Function?
Extension of the carpus and digits II-V.
M. extensor digitorum lateralis origin?
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus
M. extensor digitorum lateralis Insertion?
Dorsal aspect of the Crista unguicularis (P3) via the tendons of the M. extensor
digitorum communis.
M. extensor digitorum lateralis Function?
Extension of digits III-V.
M. extensor carpi ulnaris [M. ulnaris lateralis] origin?
Lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
M. extensor carpi ulnaris [M. ulnaris lateralis] Insertion?
Proximo-lateral end of McV and accessory carpal bone.
M. extensor carpi ulnaris [M. ulnaris lateralis] Function?
Flexion of the carpus.
M. extensor digiti I et II [M. extensor pollicus longus et indicis proprius]
This thread-like muscle lies deep to the common and lateral digital extensors and the M.
extensor carpi ulnaris. It is of no practical importance and is only mentioned for the sake of
completeness.
Origin: Cranio-lateral border of the ulna.
Insertion: One tendon ends in the fascia at the distal end of McI; the other joins the
tendon of the common digital extensor to digit II.
Function: Extension of the digits I and II.
M. abductor digiti I longus [M. abductor pollicis longus] Origin?
Lateral surfaces of the radius and ulna.
M. abductor digiti I longus [M. abductor pollicis longus] Insertion?
Proximo-medial end of McI. There is a sesamoid bone in the tendon of insertion.
