Extrinsic muscles of the ear Flashcards
What is Auricula?
תנוך האוזן
Witch muscles are ventral auricular muscles?
The only muscle in this group, the M. parotidoauricularis, depresses the ear. It is innervated by the R. colli of N. facialis (CN VII).
the M. parotidoauricularis is worth remembering as it is often used as a surgical landmark.
Witch muscles are Caudal Auricular Muscles? what is their function?
לא לבוחן
These muscles function as abductors of the Concha and turn the auricular opening laterally.
• M. cervicoscutularis
• M. cervicoauricularis superficialis / medius / profundus
Branches of the facial nerve innervate all of the above.
Witch muscles are Dorsal Auricular Muscles? what is their function?
לא לבוחן
Dorsal Auricular Muscles
The muscles in this group are conchal levators and elevate the ear. There are three muscles:
• M. interscutularis
• M. parietoscutularis
• M. parietoauricularis
Branches of the facial nerve innervate all of the above
Witch muscles are Rostral Auricular Muscles? what is their function?
לא לבוחן
Rostral Auricular Muscles
These muscles adduct the Concha and turn the auricular opening rostrally and medially.
M. scutuloauricularis superficialis dorsalis / medius /ventralis / accessorius
M. frontoscutularis
M. zygomaticoauricularis
Branches of the facial nerve innervate all of the above
Rotators of the Concha
who are them? and what is their function? antagonist of?
This group attaches to the ventral surface of the scutellum and is embedded in fat at the base of the Concha. The muscles rotate the auricular opening laterally and caudally and thus act as antagonists of the adductors. There are two muscles in the group and are known collectively as Mm. scutuloauriculares profundi; they are innervated by the facial nerve.
