Origin is the xiphoid process, cartilages of ribs 4-10, and anterior of lumbar vertebrae.
Insertion is the central tendinous sheet.
Diaphragm
Origin is the lower eight ribs
Insertion is the linea alba and iliac crest
External oblique
Origin is the iliac crest and adjacent connective tissue
Insertion is the lower ribs, xiphoid of sternum, and linea alba
Internal oblique
Origin is the cartilages of lower ribs, iliac crest, and adjacent connective tissues.
Insertion is the linea alba and pubis
Transversus abdominis
Origin is the superior surface of the pubis around the symphysis
Insertion is the inferior surfaces of coastal cartilages (ribs 5-7) and xiphoid process.
Rectus abdominis
Action: depresses ribs, flexes vertebral column
Rectus abdominis
Action: compresses abdomen
Tranversus abdominis
Two muscles action are to compress the abdomen, depresses the ribs, flexes or laterally flexes vertebral column
External & Internal oblique
Action: contraction expands thoracic cavity, compresses abdominopelvic cavity.
