Bones of the Upper Limb Flashcards
Bone that extends from the scapula to the elbow.
Humerus
Bone of the forearm on the lateral (thumb)side.
Radius
Bone of the forearm, medial side, provides support.
Ulna
Bones that make up the wrist
Carpal
Bones that make up the palm of the hand.
Metacarpals
Bones that make up the fingers.
Phalanges
The actual name for your thumb.
Pollex
Part of the humerus that articulates with the scapula.
Head
These are part of the head of the humerus, where shoulder muscles will attach and also form the contour of the shoulder.
Greater and Lesser Tubercles.
This is the structure of the humerus that articulates with the radius and ulna.
Condyle
These are projections to either side of the humerus, they provide additional area for muscle attachment.
Medial and Lateral epicondyles
This is the large, medial portion of the condyle of the humerus, shaped like a pulley. It extends from the base of the coronoid fossa to the anterior surface of the olecranon fossa.
Trochlea
This forms the lateral region of the humerus’s condyle, it is proximal to the radial fossa (a shallow area that accommodates the radius).
Capitulum
This is the part of the ulna that makes the point of the elbow, and forms the superior lip of the notch.
Olecranon
This is found on the anterior surface of the ulna, it articulates with the trochlea of the humerus at the elbow joint.
Trochlear notch
