A: rotates thigh laterally
assists in holding femur in acetabulum

O: pelvic surface of 2-4 sacral ligaments, sup margin of greater sciatic notch, sacrotuberous ligaments I: greater trochanter of femur N: ant rami S1, S2 A: abducts and rotates thigh laterally holds femur in acetabulum
