Muscles of Ant Thigh Flashcards
sartorius
O: ASIS, sup part of notch inf to it I: sup part of medial surface of tibia N: femoral nerve L2, L3 A: flexes, abducts and laterally rotates thigh at hip joint flexes leg at knee joint
pectineous
O: superior ramus of pubis I: pectineal line of femur just inf to lesser trochanter N: femoral nerve L2, L3 A: adducts and flexes thigh assists w/ medial rotation of thigh
psoas major
O: sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and discs b/w them
transverse processes of all lumbar vertrbra
I: lesser trochanter
N: ant rami of lumbar nerves L1, L2, L3
A: active during standing;
works w/ iliacus in flexing and stabilizing hip joint
iliacus
O: iliac fossa, iliac crest, ala of sacrum, ant SI ligaments
I: tendon of psoas major, lesser trochanter, femur distal to it
N: femoral nerve L2, L3
A: acts w/ psoas major to flex and stabilize hip joint
rectus femoris
O: ASIS and ilium sup to acetabulum
I: base of patella via quadriceps tendon
indirectly to tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
N: femoral nerve L2, L3, L4
A: extends leg at knee joint, steadies hip joint,
helps iliopsoas flex thigh
vastus lateralis
O: greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
I: base of patella via quadriceps tendon
indirectly to tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
tibia and patella via aponeuroses
N: femoral nerve L2, L3, L4
A: extends leg at knee joint
vastus medialis
O: intertrochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera
I: base of patella via quadriceps tendon
indirectly to tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
tibia and patella via aponeuroses
N: femoral nerve L2, L3, L4
A: extends leg at knee joint
vastus intermedius
O: ant and lat surfaces of shaft of femur
I: base of patella via quadriceps tendon
indirectly to tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
N: femoral nerve L2, L3, L4
A: extends leg at knee joint
