Muscles Flashcards
What layer divides muscle tissue into fascicles?
Perimysium
Name the dense collagen layer that surrounds skeletal muscle
Epimysium
How do synergist muscles operate?
Work together/same direction
What does an antagonist muscle do
Works in the opposite direction to a given muscle
WHat is the origin?
Place where fixed end of skeletal muscle attaches to bone
What is insertion?
Place where moveable end of muscle attaches to bone
What is a fixator?
Muscle that stabilises the origin of the antagonist to allow for movement
WHat type of contraction do Type 1 fibres provide?
Slow contraction, low force high endurance
What type of contraction to Type IIA fibres provide?
Fast contraction, medium force and endurance
What type of contraction to Type IIB fibres provide?
Fast contraction, high force but low endurance - sprint
What neurotransmitter is released in to neuromuscular junction?
ACh
What is the sarcoplasm made up of?
Myofibrils
What makes up thin stands?
Actins
What makes up thick strands?
Myosins
What is the basic contractile unit of muscle fibre?
Sarcomeres
