Q

What is the technical meaning of Mukhtalif ul Hadith?

A

That hadith has a contradiction with something similar to it with the possibility of gathering/reconciling between the two maqbool mukhtalif ahadith i.e. It is a sahih or hasan hadith where another hadith comes similar to it.

And the apparent meaning differs/contradicts with it.

And it is possible for the people of knowledge and sharp understanding that they gather evidences from both of them with an accepted procedure.

*Both have evidences for strength and rank and being accepted. Therefore reconcile or use accepted procedure.

Q

What to do when two hadeeths appear to conflict?

A
  1. If it is possible to reconcile between the two then reconciling must be done and it is wajib ul amal.
  2. If it is not possible to reconcile between the two then:
-If one of them is nasikh, then it will be given preference and implemented and the mansookh will be left off.
-If nasikh/mansookh is not known, then one is given preference over the other using one of the 50 methods of tarjih and then it is implemented.
-Rarely, if one cannot be given preference over the other neither is implemented until one is given preference.
