What is the linguistic meaning of Aziz?
It is known as sifa mushabah derived from Azza yaizzu with kasra i.e little and unusual or from Azza ya’azzu with fatha i.e strong, forceful, harsh. And it has been named as aziz because an aziz hadith, finding it is very less and it is very rare.
And as for 1 aziz it has another sanad which strengthens it therefore it makes it strong. It gets backed up due to its sanad coming from another sanad.
What is the technical meaning of Aziz?
The narrators of it (khabir aziz) should not be less than 2 in within all the generations of the sanad.
Can Aziz have more than 2 narrators?
In within some of the generations, 3 or more narrators are found, then there is no harm on the condition that 2 narrators remain even thought it may be in 1 generation.
Because the least number of generations according to the sanad will be considered. This is the most preferred definition like the way hafiz ibn hajar (r.h) has written.
How have some of the ulamma differentiated between Aziz and Mashoor?
Aziz with 2 = Aziz
Aziz with 3 or more = Mashoor.
