MSK Prosection 3 - Anterior Medial Thigh And Knee Flashcards
What are the Anterior thigh muscles?
Sartorius
Vastus lateralis
Vastus medialis
Vastus intermedius
Rectus femoris
Iliopsoas
Pectineus (Kind of)
Which 4 anterior thigh muscles insert in the quadriceps tendon?
Rectus femoris
Vastus medialis
Vastus intermedius
Vastus lateralis
Where does Sartorius insert?
Pes anserinus
Where is pes anserinus?
Medial side of the knee
What does Rectus fem, and the vasti muscles do?
Rectus fem = Hip Flexion + Knee extension
Vasti muscles = Knee extension
What are all of the anterior thigh muscles innervated by?
Femoral nerve
Why is Pectineus kind of an anterior muscle but isn’t?
Only part of it enters the anterior compartment (some medial)
Its innervated by both the femoral and the Obturator nerve
What is the function of Sartorius?
Hip and knee Flexion
Lateral rotator
Where does Sartorius originate?
Anterior Superior Iliac spine
What is the branch of the aorta which supplies all of the thigh muscles
Profunda femoris
Describe the way the fibres of the Vastus medialis run:
Obliquely towards the patella pulling it medially helping prevent lateral dislocation
What is the function of iliopsoas?
Hip Flexion
Where does iliopsoas insert?
Lesser trochanter
What are the 4 muscles in the medial compartment of the thigh?
Gracilis
Adductor longus
Adductor brevis
Adductor magnus
What is the most medial medial thigh muscle?
Gracilis
