Cubital Fossa Flashcards
What is the cubital fossa?
Triangular shaped depression on the anterior aspect of the elbow
What makes up the superior border of the cubital fossa?
Imaginary line between the lateral and medial epicondyle of the humerus
What makes up the lateral border of the cubital fossa?
Brachioradialis
What makes up the medial border of the cubital fossa?
Pronator teres
What makes up the floor of the cubital fossa?
Brachialis + Supinator muscle
What makes up the roof of the cubital fossa?
Bicipital aponeurosis + fascia + subcutaneous fat + skin
What is the Bicipital aponeurosis?
Flat sheet like tendon that comes from the biceps tendon which then blends into the deep fascia of the forearm
What is the pneumonic for remembering the contents of the cubital fossa?
TAN
What are the 3 definite contents of the cubital fossa? (Use the pneumonic)
TAN
biceps Tendon
brachial Artery
median Nerve
For the pneumonic TAN, which way is this referring to the contents of the cubital fossa being in?
Running for lateral to medial
biceps Tendon most LATERAL
brachial Artery
median Nerve most MEDIAL
As well as the 3 definite contents of the cubital fossa (TAN), what may also be considered a content of the cubital fossa?
Radial nerve
Which 2 muscles does the radial nerve run between in the forearm?
Brachioradialis
Brachialis
What superficial vein is a common site for venupuncture in the roof of the cubital fossa?
Median cubital vein
What 2 veins does the median cubital vein connect to?
Basilic vein and cephalic vein
