MSK - Pectoral Region and bones Flashcards
What is the distal attachment of the pectoralis major?
The pectoralis major distally attaches to the lateral lip of the intertubercular groove of the humerus
Name the two proximal attachments of the pectoralis major
The clavicular head attaches to the medial ha,f of the clavicle
The sternocostal head is attached to the anterior of the sternum
How is the pectoralis major innervated?
By the lateral (C7,C8, T1) and medial (C5,C6) pectoral nerves
The lateral nerve provides motor input to the clavicular head
The medial nerve provides motor input to the sternal head.
What is the pectoralis major’s action?
To adduct and medially rotate the humerus
Draws scapula anterior and inferior
What is the deltoid muscles proximal attachment?
The lateral third of the clavicle
What is the deltoid muscle’s distal attachment?
The deltoid tuberosity on the humerus
What is the deltoid muscle’s innervation
Axillary nerve (C5,C6)
What is the action of the deltoid?
Clavicular part flexes and medially rotates arm
Acromial part abducts arm
The posterior part extends and laterally rotates arm
Where is the pectoralis minor found?
Under the pectoralis major
What is the proximal attachment of the pectoralis minor
3rd to 5th ribs
What is the distal attachment of pectoralis minor?
The coraciod process on the spacula.
What innervation is present in the pectoralis minor?
The medial pectoral nerve (C8, T1)
What is the proximal attachment of the subclavius?
The 1st rib
What is the distal attachment of the subclavius?
The middle third of the clavicle (inferior surface)
Innervation of the subclavius …
Nerve to the subclavius (C5, C6)
What is the action of the subclavius
Anchors and depresses clavicle
Where is the serratus anterior found?
Under the pectoralis minor
What is the proximal attachment of the serratus anterior?
Ribs 1-8 - lateral parts
Where does the serratus anterior attach to (distally)
All along the medial border of the spacula
What is the innervation of the serratus anterior
The long thoracic nerve (C5 C6 C7)
What does the serratus anterior do?
Pulls the spacula in against the thoracic wall
Assists in upwards rotation
Protracts and stabilises spacula
What causes winged scapula?
Serratus anterior paralysis usually caused by damaged to the long thoracic nerve.
What connects the clavicle to the spacula?
The acromioclavicular joint
Joins the clavicle to the acromion of spacula
What is the elevated sternal ends of the clavicle called in surface anatomy?
The jugular notch
