MSK - Front and Medial Thigh Flashcards
What do the vastus muscles do?
Act to extend the knee
What are the 4 quadriceps muscles?
Vastus medialis, vastus intermedius, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris
What does the rectus femoris do?
Extends the knee and flexes the leg at the hip joint
What are the quadriceps muscles innervated by?
The femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
What two muscles make up the iliopsoas?
Psoas major, and the iliacus
What action do the iliopsoas do?
Flexes at the hip and assists in lateral rotation
What innervates the psoas major?
The anterior rami of L1-3
What innervates the iliacus?
Femoral nerve
Where does the sartorius run?
Long and thin running across the thigh in a medial direction. Originates from the hip bone to the tibia.
What innervates the sartorius?
Femoral nerve
What is the location of the pectineus?
Originates from the pelvis and attaches to the top of the femur
What is the action of the pectineus?
Adduction and flexion at the hip joint.
What is the innervation of the pectineus?
Femoral nerve
What are the 5 medial thigh muscles?
Gracialis, obturator externus, adductor brevis, adductor longus and adductor Magnus
What nerve innervates the medial thigh?
The obturator nerve
