action potential arrives at terminal bouton (saltatory conduction down nodes of Ranveir of efferent neurone) -> Ca2+ influx -> ACh release -> ACh binds to receptors on motor end plate -> ion channels open -> Na+ influx causes action potential in muscle fibre
