More on Classical Learning 4.2.2 Flashcards
What is acquisition?
First phase of conditioning when a response is learned
acquisition = asset, investment
NS - CS
What is extinction?
When a previously conditioned response (salivation at the sound of the bell) decreases over time and eventually stops, when a behavior is no longer reinforced
What is high-order conditioning (second-order conditioning)?
Occurs when a neutral stimulus acquires the ability to elicit a response when paired with a conditioned stimulus
What is spontaneous recovery?
Occurs when an extinguished (less) response reappears after a brief pause
-reappearance
-response is weaker (may linger before extinction occurs)
-alone may help
ex. fear not as strong as it was before
What is stimulus discrimination?
A stimulus that produces a response because it was associated with a reinforcement (as opposed to a stimulus that does not elicit a reinforcement)
What is stimulus generalization?
Once a response has been conditioned, stimuli that are similar will produce a similar response
