Learning Research 4.1.1 Flashcards
What is associative learning?
A type of behavioral learning where you learn behavior based on associating a stimulus and its response
What is behavioral learning?
Emphasizes that behaviors are learned from interactions with the environment
ex. A dolphin performing a trick to earn a treat and your heart racing when you see a dog after previously being bit by one
(conditioned by the environment)
What is cognitive learning?
Learning by using your reason and perception
ex. Learning the names of all 50 states in the United States of America and using a strategy learned to solve a math problem
(all involve thinking processes)
What is learning?
any relatively enduring change in behavior due to experience
What are instincts?
Complex behaviors triggered by broader events
ex.
seasonal migration of birds
hibernation of certain animals
Who are the 5 learning researchers?
B. F. Skinner ~ studied operant conditioning
John B. Waston ~ conducted “The Little Albert” experiment
Edward Thornlike ~ developed the law of effect in learning
Albert Bandura ~ developed the social learning theory (cognitive processes included)
