Cognitive Types of Learning 4.1.2 Flashcards
What is a cognitive map?
Mental picture
What is insight learning?
A type of learning or problem-solving that happens suddenly and without actual known knowledge of how a problem might be solved
the ability to use reasoned thought processes and past experience to solve a problem.
-automatically
What is latent learning?
Type of learning that occurs without an obvious reinforcement at the time of the learning and is applied at a later time
ex. only using such information on a test later on
-Edward Tolman was the leader (concluded that reinforcement does not need to happen in order for learning to occur)
What are mirror neurons?
Neurons which are active both when you perform a behavior and when you watch another person perform the same behavior
-allow us to learn by observing others
-basis of observational learning
What is observational learning?
Occurs when you observe the behavior of others and make attempts to imitate what you have observed
ex. watching a tutorial on how to do something (DIY)
What is social theory learning?
Behaviors are learned through observing, modeling, and imitating the behaviors and reactions of others
-proposed by Albert Bandura
What is vicarious learning ?
Explains that reinforcement and punishment received by others whom you are observing will cause you to either follow or withdraw from the particular behavior pattern
ex. setting an example on what not to do
vicarious = secondhand, indirect
