Mole & Mass Relationships in Chemical Reactions Flashcards
1
Q
Ratios in a reaction
A
- The coefficients tell us the ratio of the reaction
- Ratios are in the order of the equations
- Ratios/coefficients are known as moles/mole ratio
2
Q
Using mole ratios
A
- Amount= moles
- Molar mass uses compound not element
- Mole ratios can only be used with moles not mass
- Mass should be converted to moles
- Want over Have ratio
3
Q
Mass instead of moles were given
A
- mass of given subtance –> amount of given subtance (mol)
(use molar mass of given subtance) - amount of given subtance (mol) –> amount of required subtance (mol)
(use mole ratio) - amount of required subtance (mol) –> mass of required subtance
(use molar mass of required subtance)
4
Q
Stoichiometric Amount
A
- Completely using up the recants will make it stoichiometric amounts
- A stoichiometric amount is an amount of reactants that is in the same proportion as the reactant coefficients in the balanced chemical equation
- Exact amount without anything left over
- Has to be EXACTLY the number in chemical equation
- Only uses mole ratios
