Module 9: Cardiovascular, Peripheral, Lymphatic Flashcards
Where are the heart and the great vessels located?
Between the lungs in the middle third of the thoracic cage - in the area called the mediastinum
The heart extends from the levels of the
Second to the fifth intercostal spaces and from the right border of the sternum to the left midclavicular line
Where is the right ventricle located? Left ventricle?
Right - Immediately behind the sternum and forms the greatest area of anterior cardiac surface.
Left - lies behind the right ventricle and forms the Apex and slender area of the left border
Where is the right and left atrium located?
Right- Lies to the right and above the right ventricle and forms the right border
Left - Located posteriorly with only a small portion, the left atrial appendage, showing anteriorly
What is the myocardium?
The muscular wall of the heart; it does the pumping
Where does the left and right side of the heart pump blood to?
The right side of the heart pumps blood into the lungs, the left side of the heart simultaneously pumps blood into the body
The two atrioventricular (AV) valves separate the atria and the ventricles. Which valve is the tricuspid valve, and which one is the bicuspid/mitral valve?
Right AV valve = tricuspid
Left AV valve = bicuspid or mitral
