MODULE 4.01 The stages of playing / INTRO Flashcards
The philosophy of playing that has characterized FC Barcelona
over the last 30 years has been linked to two transcendental
aspects in our way of experiencing soccer: “possession” and “recovery” of the ball.
This means possession or recovery of the ball,
and playing without stopping at all.
What concept unites, encompasses, shares and puts forth proposals
that have led the playing style of FC Barcelona to have a
unique identity, known as “our game”?
The objective is to play an offensive game with the ball as the central element.
That is, having possession of the ball will give the team a sense of belonging,
and will create a distinct style, in which the ball is the main communicator of all
of the stages of playing.
How do we implement the idea of shaping the playing style that the team
wants in each of the spaces and centered around the ball, either to maintain
possession as long as possible or to recover it as soon as possible, and thus
control the manner of playing throughout the game?
Passing and control should be used as essential tools of communication
between teammates, as they allow for an optimal position game,
in which each player is set in an ideal position to maintain possession
of the ball as a whole, that is, as a team. From the goalkeeper to the
forwards, all are constantly searching for a suitable location to receive
the ball and, when it is lost, recover it as soon as possible.
Whoever loses the ball immediately becomes the first to retrieve it
because he/she is usually the closest to it. No matter the area of the
playing field where the ball is lost, recovery must take place there and
as quickly as possible. If it is close to the opponent’s area, then the
player must reach that area and consequently, the goal, as quickly and effectively as possible.
What is the Interaction of stages dependent on the ball?
It is centered on the idea that the ball marks the playing space,
and therefore represents the central focus or the reference point.
From there, the permanent organization and reorganization within
the space will depend on the zone of the field where the ball is located,
who has it, what you want and what you can do with it.
