Scientific method
Psychologist, like all scientists, use the scientific method to construct theories that organize, summarize, and simplify observations.
Hindsight bias
We tend to believe, after learning an outcome, that we would have for seen it.

Theory
An explanation that integrates principles, organizes and predicts behaviors or events.
Example, how low self-esteem contributes to depression.
Hypothesis
A testable prediction,often induced by theory, to enable us to accept, reject, or revise the theory.
Research
Would require us to administer tests of self-esteem and depression to people.
Mode
The most frequently occurring score in a distribution.
Mean
The arithmetic average scores in a distribution obtained by adding the scores and then dividing by their number.
Median
The middle score in a rank ordered distribution.
