FSH in females
Oogenesis
LH in males
Females
Secretion of testosterone
Maintains structure / secretory function of corpus luteum
What do these hormone do during pregnancy
HCG
Estrogen
Progesterone
Relaxin
Stim. Corpus luteum to prod. Progesterone
Develops female sex traits
Helps uterus grow, no contractions
Helps body loosen up to stretch
Testes produce
Ovaries produce
Spermatozoa
Oocye
How is sperm delivered
Testes, epididymis, ductus deferens, ejaculatory duct, urethra
Where is sperm produced
Seminiferous tubules
What does the epididymis do to sperm
Non motile becomes motile
What is semen
Sperm and the accessory gland secretions
What is seminal fluid
Ionic and nutrients secretion
What does the seminal vesicles do
Contains fructose, prostaglandins, fibrinogen
Prostate gland does what
Secretes fluid
Activates sperm
Bulbourethral glands
Lubricating properties
Cleaned urethra
Ovaries does what
Make gametes (ova)
Sex hormones
How does the oocye move from the ovaries after it’s been expelled
Beating cilia - current that carry
Peristalsis - toward uterus
How does the compound alveolar ducts pass milk?
Through the lactiferous ducts
Baby growth spurts
1-3 weeks
6-8 weeks
3 months
6 months
What does progesterone do
Stim. Endometrial growth, stops contraction
What is the uterine cycle
Series of changes the uterine endometrium goes through each month bc of hormones
The uterine cycle phases
Menstrual - endometrium sheds
Proliferative - endometrium rebuilds
Secretory - endometrium prepares for implantation
How does the endometrium shed?
Spiral arteries kink and spasm to kill the cells and begins digesting itself
Spiral arteries constrict and suddenly relax
What does the corpus luteum do if pregnancy occurs
Produces hormones until placenta takes over
