they model because it is a good way to spot and solve problems. They model using materials that are quick and easy to work with as well as readily available like cardboard or balsa. They improve accuracy
how are models useful for testing a design?
they can be shown to clients and easily understood, you can test out fittings and fixtures to get a clear idea of how successful the product is.
