Q

What did missionaries do?

A

Shared a common conviction that worldwide conversion to Christianity was possible and a duty and they had a belief that other faiths were worthless.
They could help open up territories to British rule by penetrating behind colonial frontier. This would be done by building links with the indigenous population and seeking imperial protection (perhaps sharing their geographical and strategic knowledge with secular authorities). They would provide housing and farm work for native peoples in return for native conversions to Christianity
