What is a protectorate?
A colony or territory ‘protected’ by a stronger state or empire. Colonial power exercised through existing indigenous power structures. Day-to-day government and administration of areas both small and large was left in the hands of traditional rulers.
What are the advantages of a protectorate?
Able to quickly intervene if there are uprisings
