- Creatine Phosphokinase (CPK)
- released slowly into bloodstream from muscle tissue
- found chiefly in muscle tissue

What do increased levels of CK occur with?
A
- muscle injury
- inflammation
- trauma
- exercise
- surgery
- injection

Why would you want to do a CK test with a AST test?
A
- If both are elevated – normal muscle usage or injury

What is cholesterol?
A
A type of fat formed inside the body from fatty acids

What does cholesterol do in the body?
A
- Important component of cellular membranes, adrenal and gonadal hormones
- Found in many tissues including the liver, adrenal gland, gonads, nerves

What do high levels of cholesterol indicate?
A
Abnormally high levels seen in diseases with abnormal cholesterol metabolism
- hyperthyroidism
- hyperadrenocoticism (Cushing’s Disease)
- Diabetes mellitus
