What is anaphylaxis (allergies)? (2)
A
- Binding of an Ag to IgE covered mast cells or basophils leading to the release of chemical mediators (histamine)
- Ag’s can be vaccines, drugs, pollens/molds, food ingredients, insect bites

What are the clinical signs for anaphylaxis (allergies)? (7)
A
- Shock
- Hives
- Nasal/ocular discharge
- Asthma
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Dermatitis

What are autoimmune diseases?
A
Antibodies against the animal’s own normal cells are formed causing their destruction

A
- Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA)
- autoimmune thrombocytopenia (decrease)
- pemphigus
- myasthenia gravis

A
autoimmune diseases that affect the skin and mucous membranes
