Hematology: Fibrinogen Flashcards
1
Q
When do fibrinogen levels increase?
A
During inflammation
2
Q
When are fibrinogen levels useful in cattle?
A
Dairy cattle for early mastitis signs
3
Q
How are fibrinogen levels measured?
A
By heating plasma at 56°C
Fibrinogen pellets out but other plasma proteins stay suspended
4
Q
What is the procedure for measuring fibrinogen levels?
A
- Spin two hematocrits, Measure one total protein
- Incubate other hematocrit in 56°C water bath for five minutes
- Respin heated hematocrit, measure TP
- Fibrinogen level is the difference between the two total protein numbers.
Record as mg/dL
