What is the purpose of having an MEL?
To allow you to operate an aircraft with selected equipment inoperative.
Must an MEL be approved before use or can you just make one up?
All MEL’s must be approved by the local FSDO and a letter of authorization is attached to it. The MEL and Letter of authorization constitute a supplemental type certificate for the aircraft.
If you have an MEL where is it kept?
In the aircraft with the authorization letter attached.
Do you need an MEL for this aircraft?
YES
Based on the MMEL can the aircraft be dispatched with the HUMS system inoperative?
Yes
In response to question 5, what does the C in column 1 mean? (MMEL, Para 22, system definitions)
It must be repaired with 10 consecutive calendar days
What does the (M) in the remarks box on page 24-1, Item 1 Generators, A.C mean? (MMEL, Para 15, system definitions)
Indicates a requirement for a specific maintenance procedure which must be accomplished prior to operation with the listed item inoperative.
