Ice & Rain Protection Flashcards

1
Q

What Anti-Ice protection equipment is installed on the S-92?

A
  1. Engine inlet dual zone electrical heating mats (AC powered)
  2. Engine bleed air provides anti-ice to the IPS and the compressor inlet guide vanes.
  3. Pitot Heat System- All three pitot tubes electrically heated (Pilots/standby- DC Ess, Copilots- #1 DC Pri)
  4. Windshield Anti-Ice (AC Pri and DC Pri)

Q

In IFR and icing conditions and with only APU generator power what must the pilot do to ensure he/she has the ability to see the runway when breaking out of the clouds?

A

Pilot windshield Anti-ice can be recovered by selecting the override (OVRD) position

Q

Can the Rotor Ice Protection system provide blade heating/deice while on the ground?

A

A Weight on wheels interlock prevents blade heating while on the ground.
The pilot or copilot can select the ground override mode, which will provide one heating cycle to the main and tail rotor.

Q

What icing conditions are restricted or prohibited from flying into?

A

Flight in freezing drizzle/freezing rain/supercooled large drops (SLD) is prohibited
