Q

When will the HARD LANDING caution segment illuminate?

A

When any of the landing gear struts experience a landing of at least 3 Gs. Set by micro switches in each landing gear that detects fracture of the shear fuse switch located at the top of the trunnion. It is also set if any of the sensor switches fail. (480-720 FPM (8-12 FPS) rate of descent)

7
Q

If the number 3 hydraulic system fails in flight, with the gear in the retracted position, can the pilot extend the landing gear for landing?

A

Yes. The system has a nitrogen blow down system for emergency gear extension

Q

With a loss of the #1 and #2 converters and the Backup converter, can the landing gear be lowered?

A

With the DC Ess bus not powered, normal extension is not possible

Using the emergency blow down switch, powered by the Battery Bus, the gear can be lowered. (To power the Batt Bus the Back Up Converter switch must be moved to the off position

Q

How is the landing gear designed to absorb landing or hard landing energy?

A

Shock struts are an oleo pneumatic type designed to absorb energy during normal and emergency landings 2. A frangible tube absorbs energy from a hard landing.

Q

How is the landing gear held in the extended or retracted position?

A

The main landing gear is mechanically self locking in both the extended and retracted positions.

Q

How is the nose wheel of the tricycle landing gear controlled on the ground?

A

It is a castoring type nosewheel free to turn 360°. Nosewheel steering during taxi is achieved by differential braking and yaw thrust from the tail rotor

Q

What causes the landing gear warning “Too Low, Gear” aural alert and illumination of the LDG GEAR warning light?

A

Airspeed drops below 60 KIAS
Altitude is less than 150 ft agl (based on the rad alt)
Landing gear is retracted

16
Q

What effect does moving the landing gear handle have on the hydraulic system pressure?

A

It will ramp up the #3 Utility system from depressed to 3500-4200 psi

17
Q

What is the function of the brake system slave valve?

A

It directs the brake pressure from the master cylinder to the appropriate brake pad and will maintain isolation from the opposite master cylinder

18
Q

True or False
There is a self centering devise in the nose gear assembly that will center the nose gear from any position upon lift off to the hover?

A

False. If the Nose gear is 180° out alignment it will not centre and may jam when retracted
