AFCS Flashcards
Is takeoff with a Secondary SAS engaged authorized?
No, it is not authorized
Is selecting Secondary SAS in-flight authorized?
Yes in the case of an in-flight failure of a primary SAS computer.
With one PSAS operational and the other inoperative, two Auto Pilots operational and in the ATT mode are there any limitations?
One PSAS inop- 120 KIAS 2. Day or night VFR only
With two PSAS operational, One Auto Pilot inoperative and in the SAS mode are there any limitations?
Day or night VFR only
With two PSAS operational and One Auto Pilot inoperative is ATT mode available and can the aircraft be coupled?
ATT mode is available. Yes, the aircraft can be coupled
When coupled to the collective axis after takeoff and in the climb (3 cue)(VS or GA mode) can the rate of climb be adjusted to achieve 100% NR?
No- The CFD will limit power to the maximum continuous torque, TGT or Ng level. In order to adjust to 100% NR while coupled, the collective axis must be decoupled.
If the #2 Air Data Computer failed, what information would be lost on the PFD?
Airspeed, Altitude, Vertical speed information and Temperature
If the #2 Air Data Computer failed, is it possible to restore the lost data to the PFD?
Using the Reversion Control Panel- The opposite system can be selected by placing the ADC Reversion Control switch to the operating side to provide single source data to both sides of the cockpit.
In the event of an RTU failure, is it possible to use the Com/Nav radios on the failed side?
Reversionary tuning is available by turning off the failed RTU and selecting the 1/2 function key of the operating RTU. Cross side radio labels are shown in yellow on the onside RTU.
When operating weather radar, what warning must the crew be aware of and comply with?
Ensure the area within the 270 degree forward sector of the nose of the helicopter to a minimum distance of 100 feet is clear of personnel, reflecting surfaces, flammable materials, large metallic objects such as hangars or other aircraft as injury to personnel and or damage to equipment can result.
What the minimum altitude for coupled operations with airspeed above 120 KIAS?
200 Feet AGL
What provides signals for the PSAS?
How many are there?
6 Rate Gyros. 2 in the pitch axis, 2 roll and 2 yaw
What provides signals for SSAS?
2 AHRS
What is the difference between SSASS and PSAS computers?
The functions are similar just using different attitude and accel inputs
What does SAS provide?
Short term rate damping, inner loop
What is the function of the RVDT’s in the AFCS system?
Give position info of controls to AFCS and also collective position and rate of pull to the FADEC
The accelerometers provide signal input for which computer in the AFCS system?
They supply signal information to the FCC’s for ‘Enhancements’ which are Hover Augmentation and Gust Alleviation
True or False. If both AP computers are turned off, enhancements and trim beepers will still be functional?
False. At least one AP must be engaged for Trim beepers and enhancements
Why should a pilot turn off a failed autopilot?
To prevent erroneous signals from being sent to flight controls resulting in uncommanded movement or hardover
What is the authority and rate of the trim system in ATT mode
100% authority at 10% per second
What is the maximum bank angle in ATT mode and coupled to FD?
30° bank in ATT mode and 22° while coupled at a roll rate of 5° per second
What FD mode may be coupled below 50 KIAS (Vmini)?
Rad Alt
What is the default Rate of climb or descent when utilizing ALTP to initiate a climb/descent?
500 fpm
What are the speed restrictions based on the following component failure combinations?
- Both AP’s inoperative
- Single PSAS on
- 2 PSAS 1 AP (ATT Retention)
- 1 PSAS 2 AP (ATT Retention)
- Both AP’s inoperative 120 VNE
- Single PSAS on. 120 VNE
- 2 PSAS 1 AP (ATT Retention). 165 VNE
- 1 PSAS 2 AP (ATT Retention). 120 VNE
Cyclic & Yaw trim required for ATT
At least one AP must be on for attitude hold, turn coordination and coupled flight
