Q

What were the ps told the experimenter was actually on?

A

memory

17
Q

What was the procedure of milgram?

A

Participate drew roles from a hat, which was rigged so ps always got teacher.
The ps and learner were then taken to a room and learner was strapped to electric chair.
the participant was given a sample shock of 45 volts.
Then teacher went next door and asked a series of word pairs.
If the answer was wrong ps had to give correct answer and give punishment of volts.
If ps didn’t want to continue they would be given prods, but could leave if they wanted to.

18
Q

why was the ps told about electric chair?

A

the learner was strapped down to prevent excessive movement.

19
Q

what was attached to the learners wrist to avoid BLISTERS & BURNS?

A

electrode paste

20
Q

What examples of prods?

A

The experiment requires that you continue

Please continue

21
Q

What is the agentic theory?

A

Placing the blame on the authority figure

22
Q

Why was a lab coat worn by the experimenter?

A

To make it seem like they were actually an experimenter and more professional.

23
Q

Why did the study take place at a prestigious university?

A

As its a trusted place with a good name.

24
Q

what % of ps went all the way to 450 volts?

A

65% (26ps)

25
Q

How many participants went to 300 volts?

A

all 40 ps

26
Q

What nervous behavior was shown?

A

ps sweated, bit their lips, stuttered and dug fingernails into flesh.

27
Q

How many people displayed nervous laughter?

A

14 out of 40

28
Q

How many participants had full blown seizures?

A

3 ps

29
Q

What is one comment from one ps?

A

Its not fair to shock the guy

30
Q

Why does the ps experiencing a 45 volt shock make the study seem more real?

A

Convinced the naive ps that the shocks were real and genuine

31
Q

Why does the ps experiencing a random allocation of roles make the study seem more real?

A

They thought the confederate was also a participant that had volunteered through newspapers

32
Q

Factors making the study low in ecological validity?

A

Giving real shocks not a real life task, also lab not a real life setting

33
Q

Factors making study high in ecological validity

A

ps given a tester shock (real and genuine)
Lab coat (more pro)
Took place a prestigious uni
generator had light and hazard stickers

34
Q

Possible reasons why participants obeyed?

A

Payed to take part
Told shock weren’t harmful
didn’t want to distribute experiment
ps assume the experimenter knows what he is doing

35
Q

How is this study valid?

A

Gives you an overall view of how people are in real life

36
Q

How might this study not have been valid?

A

Observer bias, observer may have only recorded data which supported the hypothesis on obedience

37
Q

Another factors which made the experiment seem more real?

A

The shock generator had lights and hazard stickers
