What is metartarsus adductus?
A
-Foot deformity, forefoot bend or turn towards midline

What is the aetiology of Metatarsus adductus
A
-Abnormal uterine position
Tight or malinsertions of:
-abductor hallucis
-tibialis anterior
-tibialis posterior
-contracted joint capsule and lig of lisfranc
-tight tib ant secondary to weak peroneals

Classification of type of MA?
A
Postural MA -hallux adduction, during simulated weight bearing Simple MA -trasnverse plane deformity at lisfranc Complex MA -adduction and varus Skewfoot -forefoot adduction and varus with rearfoot eversion and abduction at he midtarsal and subtalar joint

Classification of severity?
A
Heel bisection exited
- Normal, 2nd and 3rd
- Mild, 3rd only
- Moderate,3rd and 4th
- Severe 4th and 5th

Classification of flexibility?
A
Passive abduction of forefoot with stable rearfoot
- Flexible, complete abduction
- Partial, abduction to midline
- Rigid, no abduction possible

Treatment
A
- correct it self in most cases
- Mobilisation techniques during nappy change
- splinting, mild to moderate flexible
- casting and splinting, moderate to severe
