Q

Evaluation

+Dual task performance
↪️hitch and Baddely, 1976

What did task 1 consist of?

What did task 2 consist of?

Results and what it demonstrates?

A

Task 1- occupy CE >statement given and shown letters then asked whether statements were true of false

Task 2- occupy articulatory loop (asked to say “the” repeatedly) or involved both CE and the AL (asked to say random digits)

Result- Task 1 slower when Task 2 included both Cent.Ex and Artic Loop
↪️demonstrates dual task performance effects and that the Cent ex is part of the WMM

Q

Evaluation-

Limitations

CE Too vague

Eslinger and Damasio (1985) studied EVR who had his cerebral Tumour removed.

How did he perform on tests which required reasoning?

How did he perform on tests which required decision-making

A

Performed well on tests which required reasoning = Suggestd CE was intact

He had poor-decision making skills = suggests CE was not wholly intact

CE is more complex than assumed

Q

Limitation-
Evidence from brain damaged Ppts

Most evidence for WMM came from individuals who suffers serious brain damage

One thing which maybe attributed to behaviour changes

Other difficulties which can reduce performance

A

Traumatic nature of brain injury which can make a person perform worse on certain tasks

Difficulties such as paying attention =underperformance on certain tasks
