Memory-types Of Ltm Flashcards
What are episodic memories-
Personal memories of events occurring as part of larger sequence including contextual detail and emotional tone
Procedural memory?
What happens if conscious attention is paid?
Memory for how to do things which are automatic as a result of repeated practice
Lost focus/disruption
Semantic memory?
How do they downtime begin
Shared memories for facts and knowledge
(E.g. Functions of objects, appropriate behaviour)
May begin as episodic memories as we squire knowledge bass on personal experiences
Then faces gradual transition to become more generalised
Evaluation
+Brain scans
Different brain areas active during different LTM activity
Episodic memory activates…
Semantic activates…
Procedural activates…
Episodic memory activates…Hippocampus
Semantic activates…Temporal Lobe
Procedural activates… Cerebellum
Evaluation-
Support for 3 types of memory-
HM findings were simplified
What did Corkin 2002 discover about HM?
What did he have no memory of?
Could learn mirror drawing hence procedural memory was intact
HM couldn’t remember the learning skills (episodic/semantic)
