Advantages of Natural Fibre Rope:
More resistant to Heat Friction than Man made rope
Minimum of stretch compared to synthetic cordage
Does not degrade in sunlight compared to synthetic rope

Advantages of Synthetic Rope:
Cheaper than natural Fibre
Lighter to handle than equivalent NF Ropes
Stronger than equivalent sized natural fibre ropes
Relatively resistant to chemical attacks by acids, alkalis and oils
High Durability
Rot resistant
Low Water absoprtion
Proper care of Rope DO’s
Dry line before stowing
Protect from weather
Use anti-chafing gear
Coil right laid line to the right
Untwist to inspect inner parts
Give the care it deserves (grease wire, rinse rope with fresh water)

Treatment of a Burn:
Remove casualty from immediate danger after assessing danger to yourself
Stop burning by rapid cooling in TEPID water for a period of no less than 15 minutes
Gently remove jewellery
Cover burn if instructed to do so to prevent infection
Obtain further Medical Advice
What is Cold water shock?
A primitive reflex which causes the heart rate to drop when the face is suddenly submerged in cold water
Treatment for Cold Water Shock
Rescue breaths ASAP
Empty lungs of water
Continue Resuscitation
Cover the head but not the air passages
Give dry clothes
Transfer to hospital ASAP and observe for at least 72 hours
What Body temperature does Hypothermia occur in?
35°
Said to be loss of life when it falls below 30°
How do we know if man made rope has degraded?
Presence of white powder
Reduction of more than 20% of diameter when slack is too far gone
How do we tell if Natural fibre rope is degraded?
White speckling inside the weave when opened
