- distort likiehood of being a victim–> women and old
- types of crime, unrealistic, terrorism
- offenders, w.c, black men, ignores white collar
- scale, media exaggerates the amount happening

- Agenda- media are selective in what they show and discussions laid down by pass media, e.g right wing newspapers show black w.c street crime
- News value- journalist views on what makes events newsworthy, value based on: predictability, violence, children, personalisation
- exaggeration- dramatising crime to generate interest gives false impression of extent off crime, exaggerate the risk of being a victim
