marxists believe that capitalism is criminogenic, meaning that by nature it enviabley causes crime
ideological functions
marxists claim that sometimes laws are passed to appear benefit the w.c but actually divert attention away from the middle-class
e.g media, tv programmes ‘benefit scroungers’ diverts attention away from the ruling class
criminogenic capitalism
encourages aggression/ importance of winning
exploitive system, proletariat, slavery
motivated by financial gain
crime with no financial motive, expression of aggression against capitalism, e.g London riots
chambliss–> capitalism promotes competition, embedded norms and crime is normal
