Maxillary Nerve Flashcards
1
Q
Course of maxillary Nerve
A
- arises from trigemnal ganglion as a purely sensory nerve
- it passes forewards along Lateral wall of cavernous sinus
- it enters pterygo-palatine fossa through foramen rotundum
- It moves laterally and enters orbit through inferior orbital fissure as infraorbital N
- It enters the face through infraorbital foramen and divides into 3 terminal branches (palpebral, nasal & labial)
2
Q
Branches of Maxillary Nerve in Cranial cavity
A
Meningeal branch near foramen rotundum, supplies dura matter of middle cranial cavity
3
Q
Branches of Maxillary Nerve in Pterygo-palatine fossa
A
3:
* two ganglionic branches connecting Maxillary nerve to Sphenopalatine ganglion
- Posterior superior Alveolar Nerve; leaves through pterygopalatine fossa through pterygo-maxillary fissure and supplies upper molar teeth, gum & Maxillary sinus
- Zygomatic Nerve: through inferior orbital fissure, divides into zygomaticotemporal (supplies anterior part of temple) & zygomaticfacial (supplies skin over zygomatic bone)
4
Q
Branches of Maxillary Nerve in the orbit
A
- Middle superior alveolar Nerve (upper premolars , gum & maxillary sinus)
- Anterior superior alveolar Nerve descends in canalis sinosus (upper incisors, canines, gum & maxillary sinuses)
