Looking forward (what would you want it to be)
Exploring values/goals
Advanteges/disadvatages
Always ask for advantage of change, not of staying with how it is
obstacles of change
Demoralisation; Haven’t succeeded, worried you won’t (hopeless)
Effort and time; not the good time now, i wont be able to sleep and I need sleep etc etc.
Resistance; I’ll decide myself (eg with unsollicited advice)
Automatic cognitive processes; Not aware of behavior, habit
Environmental factors; cues and triggers
Sustain behaviour
You need to find the underlying reason for problem behaviour. This gives you insideson how to approach.
`Motivation
Degree of willingness and readiness to change. It can vary overtime and can be influenced (eg by clinician). it underlies the actual change of bahviour.
Three components:
Will to change
Confidence in own ability
Readiness to change
It’s increased with ambivalence; evokes discomfort and starts change (cognitive dissonance)
