Bad news: our ordinary state of mind is less controlled, developed and functional than we recognise, resulting in unnecessary suffering

Good new: we can train and develop our minds, even far beyond conventional level. Includes enhanced mental capacity, well being and maturity

A
  1. usual state of mind is uncontrolled, underdeveloped and dysfunctional
  2. it is that way bc we share it so it seems normal, and bc it’s self-masking
  3. It creates psychological suffering
  4. Contemplatives can be used to train
