Why are inspections integral to the surveying profession?
It allows the identification of facts which otherwise cannot be captured just from the desk.
What are some things you should consider before carrying out an inspection?

- Do I have appropriate equipment?

What is your employers policy in relation to lone working?
If I am on an inspection alone, I must update my Outlook calendar with my location at all times when away from my desk.
This also includes taking my personal safety device with me.
What is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?
This is equipment used to prevent or minimise exposure to hazards.

Can you list some of the responsibilities required as an RICS member from Surveying safely?
The “safe person” concept which is where each individual assumes responsibility for their safety, the safety of other colleagues and people while at work.
Also an emphasis on competency such as safely using certain equipment.

Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
Can you tell me a bit about the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
It places a duty on employers to ensure that the health and wellbeing of employees and other affected persons is not put at risk, as much as reasonably possible.
What are some of the penalties for breaching the Health and Safety Act 1974?
An unlimited fine or imprisonment for up to 2 years
What is a risk assessment?
Assessment to determine the likelihood of harm being realised from a hazard.
RICS define it as examining my work and what could cause harm to people, so that you can judge whether you’ve taken enough precautions to prevent harm.

Research the property and location, also seek confirmation from the client or occupier.
