What’s a square number?
The product of a number multiplied by itself.
What’s a triangle number?
Numbers (of dots for example) that can make triangles. It starts with 1 and you can continue by adding 1 to it, then adding 2, adding 3 and so on. (Try visualizing triangles, sorry I can’t add images.)
What’s a cube number?
You can get a Cube Number by multiplying any whole number (integer) by itself and then by itself again.
What’s the two general types of numbers?
Irrational and rational numbers
What are the types of rational numbers?
Natural, whole numbers and integers.
What are natural numbers?
Counting numbers. The smallest natural number is 1. They differ by 1 (x+1, x+2, x+3)
What are whole numbers?
Natural numbers including 0.
What are integers?
Positive AND NEGATIVE whole numbers.
True or false: all natural numbers are whole numbers.
True.
True or false: all integers are whole numbers.
False.
How can you differentiate rational numbers from irrational numbes?
-It can be written as a decimal.
-It can have terminating decimals.
-It can have repeated decimals.
(Irrational numbers don’t have these characteristics. eg: Pi)
What are multiples?
The Multiples of a number are all the numbers in your number’s times table.
What are prime numbers?
Numbers that only factors are 1 and itself. eg: 13 (ok so I found out that the longest one has 2.4m digits, pretty interesting)
What is a composite numbers?
A composite number is a positive integer that can be formed by multiplying two smaller positive integers.
What’s the letter notation of real numbers?
R
What’s the letter notation of rational numbers?
Q
What’s the letter notation of integers?
Z
What’s the letter notation of whole numbers?
W
What’s the letter notation of natural numbers?
N
What’s the letter notation of irrational numbers?
Q’
TRUE OR FALSE: Rational times rational equals…
Rational
TRUE OR FALSE: Irrational times rational equals…
Irrational
What’s a factor?
All the whole numbers (integers) that divide into your number exactly. (No remainders)
What’s the only even prime number?
2
What’s a co-prime numbers?
Numbers that are only common divisible by 1. Examples: 14 and 15, 19 and 21…
Is 1 a prime number?
No
What does this mean:
n(A)
Number of elements in “A”
What does this mean:
ξ
The universal set (the set containing all the elements)
What does this mean:
A U B
The union of sets (elements in A or B or both)
What does this mean:
A ∩ B
The intersection of sets(elements in both A and B)
What does this mean:
A’
The complement of set A (elements not in A)
